So you ask what’s the red headband for? Easy answer! In the Japanese culture, red headbands (bandanas) are known as “hachimaki”. They are often worn to represent the 3 core values that I carry into my training: Perseverance, Effort, and Courage! We need perseverance to get us through the rigors of hard work, we need effort to maintain our focus, which in turn gives us a better chance of improvement, and last of all, we need courage to overcome the fear of failing and making mistakes as no one is perfect! All 3 values must be displayed at all times during training and it is highly encouraged to wear the “hachimaki” during sessions as a constant reminder!
